breathe in breathe out
Breathwork as a therapy, utilises intentional breathing patterns to release stored emotions, stress, trauma and disease that has been stored in the body. It helps with processing and healing by bypassing the conscious mind, deactivating the sympathetic nervous system and allowing the mind to enter into altered states of consciousness to promote the release of these stored emotions which allows the body’s innate healing system to function correctly.
It is different to our everyday breathing. This type of therapy has the word WORK in it for a reason. It requires effort.
Whilst there are hundreds of different styles, at the core there are only two primary categories of breathwork. ACUTE INTERMITENT HYPOXIA (think Wim Hof, Pranyama and Box Breathing) and CONCIOUS CONNECTED (think Rebirthing + Holotropic). Just as we have 12 fundamental notes in music but lots of different songs + genres, this is also true for breathwork.
Breathwork is often associated with a ‘spiritual framework’, however, since ancient times it has been used as a therapeutic tool for various physical and mental ailments. Because trauma (energetic density) is simply an unfinished process, this emotion (energy in motion) becomes stored in the body. By using the breath we stimulate both the physical and non physical in order to raise the frequency of the entire body. As stuck emotions are typically lower in frequency slash vibration they become incompatible with the body and catharsis or emotional release occurs.
Breathwork does have contraindications that can have serious consequences but a well trained therapist has been in an apprenticeship for one to three years will spot these easily and are 100% avoidable.
Every single cell on the body has a receptor for sound, so we can use it with breath work or we can use sound intentionally to stimulate energetic centres and cellular memory. The latter requires both intellectual understanding of sound and an intuitive slash harmonic approach to how it’s interfacing with the breather. The therapist becomes the puppeteer of sorts taking the client on a single on a more visceral journey that evokes emotion intentionally as both sympathetic and forced residence is used. I liken it to the way we listen to a sad song when we’re sad so that we can have a good cry.
Lexy is trained in both categories of breathwork, having completed various trainings and courses since 2018, as well as a two year apprenticeship in a style of Frequency Specific Breathwork.
One off sessions are available to current clients, who feel like they need a tuneup or some direct 1:1 time with Lexy.
These sessions can include online or in person breathwork or integrated psychotherapy. Whatever feels good for you on the day x
